Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed dissatisfaction with the deteriorating relations between Russia and Western countries during a Kremlin ceremony where he accepted the credentials of new ambassadors. The strained ties, exacerbated by Russia's offensive against Ukraine, were evident as Putin swore in diplomats from countries such as Britain and Germany, both of which have faced tensions with Moscow. Putin acknowledged the challenging times due to Western sanctions imposed on Russia and highlighted historical relations with the UK, expressing hope for improvement. He also lamented Germany's reduced reliance on Russian energy and addressed strained communication with Sweden, which is preparing to join NATO. Additionally, Putin expressed regret over strained ties with South Korea, signaling a willingness to improve relations. The diplomatic exchanges underscored the complex geopolitical landscape and ongoing challenges in Russia's foreign relations.

The attack targeted a bus carrying Israeli soldiers and settlers, leaving eight people injured, including three seriously. The assailant, 46-year-old Samir Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, ambushed the bus, shattering its windshield with over a dozen bullet holes. Israeli forces neutralised the assailant near the Ariel settlement. Hamas described the attack as a heroic operation.
In Gaza, Israeli airstrikes killed at least 40 Palestinians, including casualties in the Nuseirat refugee camp and Beit Lahiya. Medics recovered 19 bodies from northern Nuseirat and more fatalities were reported across Gaza. Israeli military operations disrupted rescue efforts as tanks entered and withdrew from northern Nuseirat.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem declared a "great victory" in Lebanon following a ceasefire. He emphasised coordination with the Lebanese army to enhance defensive capabilities. Separately, the Israeli army reported targeting a Hezbollah rocket launcher in southern Lebanon, citing ceasefire violations.
In Israel, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi hinted at resignation after October 7 attack investigations, pledging accountability and personal decisions once the probe concludes.

The statement from the country’s Interior Ministry offered no motive for the slaying of Zvi Kogan, though an Israeli Foreign Ministry official later told The Associated Press that he simply had been “killed because of who he was.”
Kogan, 28, an ultra-Orthodox rabbi who went missing on Thursday, ran a kosher grocery store in the city of Dubai, where Israelis have flocked for commerce and tourism since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in the 2020 Abraham Accords.
The agreement has held through more than a year of soaring regional tensions unleashed by Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack into southern Israel. But Israel’s devastating retaliatory offensive in Gaza and its invasion of Lebanon, after months of fighting with the Hezbollah militant group, has stoked anger among Emiratis, Arab nationals and others living in the UAE.

During an open session of the parliament, the Tehran representative said the enemies of Iran need to realise that the nation’s security is “our red line.” Several other senior officials have said Iran should reconsider its stance on nuclear weapons, after coming under direct attack from Israel twice this year. Kamal Kharrazi, an aide to Iran’s supreme leader, recently warned that Tehran may review its nuclear doctrine if it is exposed to an “existential threat.” Building and stockpiling nuclear bombs is “wrong and using it is haram [religiously forbidden]”, Khamenei said in 2019.

,1,Marine Le Pen, the longtime leader of France's far-right National Rally (RN), emphasizes on June 30 the need for voters to give her party an absolute majority in the upcoming second round of parliamentary elections. She says this majority is crucial for Jordan Bardella, the party's chief, to be appointed prime minister by President Emmanuel Macron.
Le Pen's appeal comes after the RN leads in the first round of snap polls, highlighting the importance of the decisive second round. Bardella, 28, supports this view, expressing his desire to become the "prime minister of all French" if his party wins the majority. He acknowledges the clear mandate from the French electorate and commits to being a prime minister who respects the constitution while maintaining an uncompromising stance in a "cohabitation" with President Macron.
