Iranian lawmaker Mahmoud Nabavian called for a shift in nuclear policy to strengthen deterrence against enemies, state media reported. During an open session of the parliament, the Tehran representative said the enemies of Iran need to realise that the nation’s security is “our red line.” Several other senior officials have said Iran should reconsider its stance on nuclear weapons, after coming under direct attack from Israel twice this year. Kamal Kharrazi, an aide to Iran’s supreme leader, recently warned that Tehran may review its nuclear doctrine if it is exposed to an “existential threat.” Building and stockpiling nuclear bombs is “wrong and using it is haram [religiously forbidden]”, Khamenei said in 2019.
