The Hebrew names of God in the Bible. The name of God was so holy to the Jews that they never pronounced the consonants for God - which had no meaning - but said "Adonai". The vowels for Adonai were added to the consonants for "God" in the Hebrew Bible and this produced the name "Jehovah" used today but it does not appear in the original Hebrew Old Testament as such.
