M53 major incident: Girl, 14, and bus driver killed after school bus overturns

A 14-year-old girl and a bus driver have died after a school coach was involved in a horror crash on the M53 this morning. Shocking photos show the bus carrying pupils from Calday Grammar School and West Kirby all-girls grammar school overturned on the major motorway towards Liverpool just after Junction 5. The crash happened just after 8am on the M53 near Birkenhead, Merseyside, during busy rush hour. Police this afternoon revealed there has been two fatalities. Merseyside Police said: "We understand there were 54 people [on the bus] including the driver, sadly I can confirm the driver and a 14-year-old schoolgirl have died." Cops say 50 other children were taken to an emergency training centre where they were medically assessed.
