The Pentagon has decided to send cluster munitions to Ukraine amid Kyiv’s floundering counteroffensive. The US has said it will send cluster munitions that will pose the least threat to the civilian population. The US last used its cluster munitions in Iraq in 2003, but later decided not to use them as the conflict shifted to a more dense population. A US official told the Times that it is clear that the current battlefield situation has made cluster weapons “100 percent necessary”.
