'Independence and integrity': RBA's new governor must not be politically appointed

Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor has voiced concerns about the appointment of the RBA's potential new Governor, saying the bank must maintain “integrity and independence” and cannot have someone who would be a political appointment. “There’s a real question mark about an appointment that would breach that independence and I think that’s something that they’ve got to look at closely,” Mr Taylor told Sky News host Sharri Markson. “Every appointment has to be made on the basis that you maintain the independence and integrity of the Reserve Bank. “You put highly competent people into those board roles and they’re not appointed on the basis of them being mates of the Labor Party or union buddies.”
