While a gruelling battle in Bakhmut has been the epicentre of the war for months, a shadow war has been underway in Ukraine’s south. Disjointed but intense fightings have reportedly been underway around the city of Kherson in southern Ukraine. Russian and Ukrainian forces are fighting a deadly battle in the islands, marshes, and inlets of the Dnipro delta. For months now, Ukraine’s special forces have been conducting riverine raids against Russian positions along the Dnipro River. The 73rd Naval Center of Special Operations, a secretive US Navy SEAL-like unit, is leading Ukraine’s shadowy battle against Russia.
