Washington Today (12-27-23): Michigan Supreme Court keeps Donald Trump on GOP primary ballot

The Michigan Supreme Court rejects a lawsuit challenging former President Donald Trump candidacy for the presidency under the U.S. Constitution's "insurrection clause" in the 14th Amendment. We will talk with USA Today Supreme Court Correspondent John Fritze about the Michigan case and a similar case in Colorado, which went the other way, and whether this issue will end up before the U.S. Supreme Court. (1) Pollster Frank Luntz assesses the state of the 2024 race for president at an event held by the group "No Labels," which is considering backing a third-party candidate. He talks about the viability of such a third-party candidate. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Homeland Security Sec Alejandro Mayorkas are in Mexico City meeting with the Mexican President about immigration and border security, as upwards of 10,000 migrants a day have been arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border in recent days. Israel again is very critical of the United Nations, saying it is not staying neutral in Israel war with Hamas, but actively supporting Hamas. Russia convenes an informal meeting of the United Nations Security Council and invites briefers that back only its narrative that the 2014 revolution in Ukraine against a pro-Russia leader was a de facto coup carried out the U.S. and other western nations and that the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine was justified by mistreatment of Russian-speaking Ukrainians. Every other country's ambassador who spoke at the meeting rejected those views are outright false.
