A mother and her former boyfriend have been jailed for life for the murder of her son, who suffered more than 70 injuries during a night of violence and even had traces of cocaine in his system. Alfie Phillips was 18 months old when Sian Hedges, 27, his mother, and Jack Benham, 35, her partner, both drug addicts, subjected him to an appalling and sustained attack in their caravan in Kent in Nov 2020. The toddler died with a “myriad of bruises” and had fractures to his ribs, arms and legs.
