Ecuador's president has declared war on drug gangs amid spiraling violence. Soldiers are patrolling the streets and schools and shops are closed in many big cities. Unrest broke out when a state of emergency was declared over a drug lord's prison escape. Inmates are holding more than 100 prison staff hostage. Gunmen also stormed a news station and held journalists captive on live TV. 00:00 Background 03:18 Steven Dudley, InSight Crime 08:33 Adriana Noboa Arregui, Journalist Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1 For more news go to: http://www.dw.com/en/ Follow DW on social media: ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dwnews ►Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dwnews_hangout Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/dwdeutsch #ecuador #stateofemergency #gangs
