NATO was created to deter the Soviet Union in Europe. But now it seems to be positioning itself to take on China. During their two-day summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, NATO leaders issued a firm statement, expressing concerns about the People's Republic of China (PRC). According to the statement, China's actions pose challenges to the alliance's interests, security, and values through its "ambitions and coercive policies". NATO heads of state said in their communique, "The PRC employs a broad range of political, economic, and military tools to increase its global footprint and project power while remaining opaque about its strategy, intentions, and military build-up. The PRC's malicious hybrid and cyber operations and its confrontational rhetoric and disinformation target Allies and harm Alliance security."
