The B61-12 nuclear bomb has officially joined the U.S. stockpile and received approval for operational deployment on the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. It's the first U.S. combat aircraft cleared to employ the advanced B61 variant operationally. Within the U.S. stockpile, the B61 series stands as one of the longest-serving nuclear weapons. The B61-12 is designated to gradually replace the current B61-3, -4, and -7 variants in the future. The first production B61-12 was completed in late 2021 and the weapons began being delivered to the U.S. military in 2022.
