South Africa's Justice Minister Ronald Lamola delivered the opening statement during the hearing of the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. He said that the country was extending its hand to the people of Palestine in "full knowledge that we are part of a humanity". Meanwhile, The Israel Army's war against Hamas militants has intensified in recent days, with fierce clashes being reported in the South and Central Gaza. In the past day, the IDF claimed that its forces killed over 11 Hamas militants. It also noted that 186 soldiers were killed since the ground operations began in Gaza. On January 6, the IDF said it had dismantled 12 Hamas battalions in Northern Gaza. However, war monitors rebuffed the claims, saying that Hamas was neither defeated nor destroyed in the area. Additionally, Lebanese group, Hezbollah, has claimed to have foiled Israel's plot against it. Hezbollah said it has destroyed Israeli spy equipment located near the border area. The group bombed Israeli facilities at the Hadab Al-Bustan and Hanita sites. Hezbollah also released a video showing the attack on Israeli facilities. Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel are at an all-time high since the war in Gaza began. This is because Israel has assassinated two top Hezbollah commanders this week.
