The Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest encourages writers to submit stories related to Judaism or Jewish culture or history. Ilana Marcus is the 2022 third-place winner for her story “Night of Broken Glass.” "Set in Michigan, the story follows a teenage Jewish boy as he processes the death of a friend’s father, prompting questions of what it means to become a Jewish adult." Ilana discusses with Moment editor Sarah Breger where the idea for her story originated, her writing process and other Jewish authors that inspire her as a writer. Established in 2000, The Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest has brought in distinguished judges and special guests including Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Pinsky, Walter Mosley, Nicole Krauss, Erica Jong, Jonathan Safran Foer, Geraldine Brooks, Andre Aciman, Dara Horn and many others. The 2022 Judge was author Allegra Goodman.
