Protests in Portugal over housing crisis

Protesters in Portugal have taken to the streets in their thousands to rally against rising house prices and rent. Rental prices have jumped 65 per cent since 2015 while house prices have increased by 137 per cent, and data shows the average monthly wage is far less than the median monthly rent price in Lisbon. The government has announced a housing package which bans new Airbnb licenses, but locals argue it is not enough to lower house prices in the short term.
