Similar to how there is great clarity in space due to the absence of atmospheric haze. It's challenging to judge distances because you can see so far. The first thing photons of light from the sun strike in the famous photograph of Aldrin on the moon is his suit. You can plainly see the flag, the lunar lander, and Armstrong taking the picture if you look through his visor. No haze or dust exists.
