John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word..." | Tetze Torah Ministries

Recently many Bible students the world over recycled our annual Torah reading schedule back around to the book of Genesis, the book of “beginnings.” In this video, I want to link the first verse in Genesis, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” with the first verse in the book of John: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Verses like this are so wonderfully simple to understand that there is no need to actually turn to the original Greek to find deeper meaning. However, by way of interest, if you were to look this verse up in a Hebrew translation of the Greek, you would be delightfully surprised to find that the choice of Hebrew wording closely resembles the Hebrew of Genesis 1:1. And John being Jewish of course very likely purposely chose terminology that would immediately cause the reader of his letter to be reminded of that very first verse in the Hebrew Bible.
