Former US president Donald Trump's bid to use "presidential immunity" to dismiss a $US10 million defamation case by writer E Jean Carroll has been rejected by a US judge. District court judge Lewis Kaplan wrote the 77-year-old's response was "over the top". "Mr Trump’s response was over the top, and presidential immunity is “not a ‘get out of damages liability free’ card," he wrote. Mr Trump's lawyer Alina Habba said they "disagree with the court's decision and will be taking the appropriate steps to preserve all viable defenses".
