Wall Street Journal Editor-At-Large Gerard Baker says the situation between Israel and Hamas needs to be understood in the context of the Middle East. Israel declared a state of war on Saturday following a surprise attack from Hamas where the Palestinian militant group infiltrated the country’s south and fired thousands of rockets. “The responsibility for this absolute monstrosity lies solely with Hamas, with these bloodthirsty savages who’ve committed this simply astonishing act of depravity,” he told Sky News host James Morrow. “But it does need to be understood of course in the broader context of what’s been going on between Israel and the Palestinians but also in the broader Middle-East. “What we’ve seen … over the last two decades, a series of American disasters in the Middle East.”
