Firefighting planes battle against blazing wildfires in Athens as raging infernos continue wreaking havoc across Greece. Several hundred people have had to evacuate their homes nationwide since fires erupted in northern Greece on Saturday (August 19). These fires, exacerbated by the combination of intense heat and high winds, constitute the second major outbreak of the summer. Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that 355 wildfires had erupted since Friday, with 209 occurring in the last 48 hours.
