Japan Rocked By Over 80 Powerful Earthquakes on New Year's Day

This was not the start to 2024 people in Japan had imagined. More than 80 earthquakes were recorded across the country, with the largest measuring 7.6 in magnitude. A tsunami warning is still in place, with the epicentre of the quake located just off Japan’s west coast. At least 30 buildings have collapsed, with authorities warning that people may still be trapped inside. Ishikawa Prefecture was badly affected, with tremors triggering a huge fire in Wajima city. Tens of thousands of homes are without power, and damage has been caused to roads and major transport hubs. It’s still unclear how many people have been killed or injured.
