Two-thirds of Australians ‘still support’ acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines

Lowy Institute Public Opinion and Foreign Policy Director Ryan Neelam says two-thirds of Australians “still support” the acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines under AUKUS. “Now when you ask them about the impact these submarines will have on regional stability, the picture is less clear,” he told Sky News Australia. “There’s a mixed set of views on whether it will increase instability in the region, decrease instability in the region – and actually quite a large number people don’t know or think it will make no difference either way.”
