‘Shame on our nation’: Child abuse in NT five times higher than the rest of Australia

Data reveals child abuse in the Northern Territory is five times higher than anywhere else in the country which is a “shame on our nation”, says Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Birmingham. Mr Birmingham’s comments come as Opposition Leader Peter Dutton calls for a Royal Commission into the “rate” and “endemic nature” of abuse in the territory. “These are a known scourging shame on our nation,” he told Sky News Australia. “This is an enduring problem and indeed it’s an intergenerational problem. “It really does deserve the highest level of consideration and thought.”
