The Metropolitan Police say around 300,000 people attended the pro-Palestine march in London today. The march coincided with Armistice Day events, including the main ceremony at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the UK, and many other nations, observe two minutes silence to remember those who died serving their country. Armistice Day has been commemorated since 1919 following the end of the First World War. The Metropolitan Police put exclusion and dispersal zones in place to prevent protestors or counter-protestors disturbing the ceremony. The protest appears to have been largely peaceful, and it followed the approved route some distance away from Whitehall. But there were some sporadic clashes between the police and counter-protestors. Police attempted to keep to counter-protestors away from the main march and the Armistice Day event. More than 90 people were arrested, the majority of them members of the counter-protest.
