Super rare urban encounter with a humpback whale in Montreal

This young humpback whale spent approximately ten days in the St Lawrence River, right in front of downtown Montreal, from late May 2020. I took this video from a small bridge and the whale was right under me, swimming against the current.Show more

Researchers do not know why the whale ventured hundreds of kilometres away from its natural habitat. Unfortunately, it was found dead three days after this video was shot, presumably after getting hit by a boat.
