'Rishi Sunak Makes Historic Apology for 'Appalling' Treatment of LGBT People in The Military' During Prime Minister’s Questions, Rishi Sunak made a historic apology for the treatment of LGBT people in the military. The apology followed a report released by the LGBT Veterans Independent Review today. The review, overseen by the UK’s first openly gay judge Lord Etherton, heard evidence from over 1000 veterans who served between 1967 and 2000. Those veterans gave accounts of homophobic bullying, sexual abuse and acts of violence. Until the year 2000, it was against the law to be gay in the military. Serving military personnel were arrested and then imprisoned or dismissed on account of their sexuality. Many veterans still have a criminal record today, and some are unable to claim their military pension. The review has proposed that affected veterans receive financial compensation, and made 48 further recommendations to the government. #military #uk #lgbt #news Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/ODNsubs TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ondemandnews Twitter: https://twitter.com/ODN Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ODN/ If you wish to purchase any of our clips for commercial use, please visit: http://www.itnproductions.co.uk/news/
