The Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest encourages writers to submit stories related to Judaism or Jewish culture or history. David Tuchman is the 2022 second-place winner for his story “Chelm, NJ.” "In this story we learn that just over the George Washington Bridge, there is a town of pious fools. Everything they do is a little bit strange, especially when they meet at shul to pray." David discusses with Moment editor Sarah Breger where the idea for his story originated, his writing process and other Jewish authors that inspire him as a writer. Established in 2000, The Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest has brought in distinguished judges and special guests including Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Pinsky, Walter Mosley, Nicole Krauss, Erica Jong, Jonathan Safran Foer, Geraldine Brooks, Andre Aciman, Dara Horn and many others. The 2022 Judge was author Allegra Goodman.
