Amid China's assertive display of military prowess near Taiwan, a move intended to pressure the democratic nation it considers part of its territory, the Indian military is evaluating strategies for responding to a potential crisis. While India has historically maintained a measured stance on the China-Taiwan matter, there is growing consideration within New Delhi to delve more deeply into this situation. Former chiefs of India’s three services are in Taiwan’s capital Taipei to engage with various sections of the Taiwanese leadership and express India’s views. Admiral Karambir Singh, General M.M. Naravane, and Chief of Air Staff R.K.S. Bhadauria—the former Navy, Army, and Indian Air Force chiefs respectively—attended Ketagalan Forum’s 2023 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue, interpreted by observers as India's representation at the conference. While the visit is reportedly ‘private’, but the invitation came from Taiwan Foreign Ministry. India adheres to the 'One China policy' with regard to Taiwan and maintains no formal diplomatic relations with Taipei.
