Homes at risk from flooding in parts of Victoria following heavy rainfall

Disaster fatigue is hitting eastern Victoria where residents who battled bushfires earlier this week, are being inundated by floodwater. There are 29 advice alerts in place which span across the eastern part of Victoria right up to the New South Wales border. There are 16 ‘Watch and Act’ warnings in place; these are for areas that are either experiencing or can expect minor or moderate flooding. Two emergency flood warnings remain in place in eastern Victoria after heavy rainfall. Lake Glenmaggie has been releasing significant amounts of water to ensure that it doesn’t overflow and saw the Macalister River peak earlier on Thursday. Water levels are receding, but local communities are concerned about the impact of controlled water storage releases.
