Cold and hazardous conditions hit the US due to major winter storm

Dangerously cold temperatures prompt school closures and disrupt travel across the U.S., affecting the Rockies, Great Plains, Midwest, and a wide area from Texas to Alabama in the South. Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Cincinnati, and Portland have canceled classes. Power outages hit Oregon with nearly 50,000 homes affected, while Texas and Mississippi report over 27,000 and nearly 19,000 without power.
