Kim Jong Un led a high-level meeting of North Korea's ruling party to discuss a recent failed satellite launch, among other issues. The rocket plunged into the sea on May 31 due to engine failure, Pyongyang had said in a rare candid admission. It was carrying a military reconnaissance satellite as part of Kim’s push to acquire a space-based surveillance system. During the three-day meeting that ended June 18, the Politburo called the failed spy satellite launch the "gravest failure".
