What Atheists Just Discovered In Saudi Arabia TERRIFIED Scientists! During the early Christian era, Hermits frequented the area, and in 530 CE, the Saint Catherine Monastery was built at the northern base of Mount Sinai. It's believed to be the world's oldest continuously inhabited Christian monastery and houses an impressive collection of ancient biblical manuscripts. Mount Sinai, at 2,285 meters, around 7,497 feet, is a moderately high mountain near Saint Catherine in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Though surrounded by taller peaks in the range, it resides next to Mount Catherine, Egypt's highest peak at 2,629 meters, equivalent to 8,625 feet. The summit features a mosque still used by Muslims and a Greek Orthodox Chapel that contains The Rock, believed to be the source of the biblical stone tablets. Additionally, Moses's cave, where he awaited the Ten Commandments, can be found at the summit. However, the focus now shifts to Saudi Arabia, where multiple sites have been proposed as the modern-day location of Mount Sinai. One particularly controversial suggestion comes from Charles Becker, an English traveller, geographer, and biblical critic. In 1873, Becker published a pamphlet titled "Mount Sinai: A Volcano," arguing that biblical descriptions of the theophany at Mount Sinai implied it was a volcano. He also speculated that the mountain should be situated along Moses's route from Midian in northwest Arabia back to Egypt.
