The Chinese government has officially confirmed the dismissal of Defence Minister Li Shangfu, two months after he disappeared from public view. In addition to his ouster from the defence portfolio, Li was also removed from Beijing’s Central Military Commission, the ruling body for the People’s Liberation Army. During a meeting of China’s top legislative body on October 24, lawmakers confirmed a number of personnel decisions, including the sacking of Li. According to Chinese state media, no replacement has been named after Li, who served as state councillor of China.
