The Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest encourages writers to submit stories related to Judaism or Jewish culture or history. Steven Bryan Bieler is the 2022 first-place winner for his story “Arguing with Reinfeld.” "“The story explores a theme that is familiar to many of us—coping with the inevitable decline and loss of both parents and teachers. But it’s not a maudlin tale, rather a celebration of life and legacy." Steven discusses with Moment editor Sarah Breger where the idea for his story originated, his writing process and other Jewish authors that inspire him as a writer. Established in 2000, The Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest has brought in distinguished judges and special guests including Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Pinsky, Walter Mosley, Nicole Krauss, Erica Jong, Jonathan Safran Foer, Geraldine Brooks, Andre Aciman, Dara Horn and many others. The 2022 Judge was author Allegra Goodman.
