Details of this week’s UK mobile emergency alert system test released | ITV News

A loud alarm will sound from millions of mobile phones across the UK, with a message also appearing on screens at 3pm on April 23 in a test of a new public alert system. The system is intended to be used in life-threatening situations including flooding and wildfires. The government has released the text that will pop up on people’s home screens next Sunday. The message will be received on 4G and 5G mobile phones, along with sound and vibration for up to 10 seconds even if devices are on silent. It will say: “This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there’s a life-threatening emergency nearby. “In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe. Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information. This is a test.
