5 Arleigh Burke destroyers of #usnavy approved for Life extension !

The Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Surface Warfare Division (N96) recently approved the service life extension of four Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers. USS Ramage (DDG 61) and USS Benfold (DDG 65) will have their service life extended by five years to FY2035 and FY2036, respectively. The life of USS Mitscher (DDG 57) and USS Milius (DDG 69) is extended by four years to FY2034 and FY2035, respectively. These developments follow the extension of the USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) in March 2023, which added an extra five years to its operational service, extending it through FY2031. This extension places each destroyer well past its originally estimated service life of 35 years. This move has direct implications for the US Navy’s combat potential.
