Andrew (Andy) Jampoler was born in Lwów, German-occupied Poland, in January 1942. At the time, his parents, Karol and Hanka, were in hiding to avoid being forced into the ghetto. Hanka was forced to give birth to Andy in their apartment as Jews were no longer allowed to use hospitals. For the next few years, the Jampolers remained on the run.
