Farmers and firefighters concerned as signs of El Nino are growing

Farmers in southern New South Wales are reporting drier than usual conditions as signs grow of a El Nino weather pattern approaching. Braidwood farmer Garry Grant is one of many noticing a decline in pasture growth, as he says the recent lack of rainfall is reminiscent of the start of the last drought which only ended in 2020. Rural firefighters are also concerned as the drier conditions combined with La Nina’s forest regrowth will increase the risk of bushfires.
