The Ukrainian army is making incremental gains in its counteroffensive, Kyiv officials said on June 28. Ukraine’s Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said that “everyday, there is an advance”. She pointed to advances near the occupied towns of Berdyansk and Mariupol. Ukrainian commander-in-chief General Valery Zaluzhniy has also reported gains in the battlefield. According to the Institute for the Study of War, Prigozhin’s rebellion is having widespread impacts on the Russian military command structure. A Russian milblogger claimed that there had been “large-scale purges” among the command cadre of the Russian armed forces. The military blogger claimed that the Russian MoD is currently undergoing a “crash test” for loyalty.
