Russia’s Defence Ministry has released footage of the Aug. 14 raid on a cargo ship in the Black Sea. The Palau-flagged Sukru Okan vessel continued sailing to the port of Izmail after the "inspection for prohibited goods" was completed. The Russian soldiers were seen boarding a Ka-29 helicopter after checking the ship and questioning the crew. Moscow had said it fired warning shots on the vessel when its captain failed to respond to a request to stop for an inspection. This was the first time Russia fired on merchant shipping beyond Ukraine since exiting the UN and Turkey-brokered grain deal last month. Russia had warned it would treat any ships approaching Ukrainian ports as potential military vessels, prompting a similar threat from Kyiv. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that the ship was headed to the Ukrainian port of Izmail. The Russian Defence Ministry said warning fire was used to stop the vessel and board it with the help of a Ka-29 helicopter.
