Grass, plants, and carbon-capturing algae in the middle of the desert sands may not be the first things that come to mind when one thinks of Saudi Arabia. However, the once-barren deserts are gradually becoming greener. Michio Kaku cites this as an example of something required by climate science: Getting rid of CO2 emissions and abandoning fossil fuels are only part of the solution to climate change. Saudi Arabia is "greening" its environment through the implementation of new technology, adjustments to farming methods, and an increase in plant life as part of the Saudi Green Initiative, despite the fact that most of the country is desert.
