Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stirred a massive controversy by blaming Muslims for the soaring prices of tomatoes. Himanta said that miya traders (muslim vendors) are charging high prices for vegetables from Assamese people in Guwahati, while the price of vegetables is low in the villages. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi hit out at Himanta and said, "Modiji has a deep friendship with foreign Muslims. Get some tomatoes, spinach, and potatoes from them." AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal also accused Himanta of creating a rift in society.
