Born Jude Abaga in Jos, Plateau State, he experimented with music in high school while in Nigeria but as he earned his Business Degree in Calvin College in the US, the American rap culture became a huge part of his life, falling in love with the craft of rappers such as Jay-Z and DMX. His Ml2 album remains Nigeria's best selling hip-hop album and MI holds the record for the most albums charting at one time on Apple Music in Nigeria.
