Registered pets in Taiwan set to outnumber children under 14

Statistics suggest people in Taiwan overwhelmingly prefer puppies over children which has raised concerns as the territory has one of the world's lowest birth-rates. The number of registered pets is set to surpass the number of children under 14 within the next two years. Pet pampering is big business with the industry grossing $2 billion US annually.
