'Cheap 1960s Package Holidays to Blame for Record Skin Cancer Levels' Cancer Research UK says skin cancer cases have hit a record high. They say it’s due to the popularity of package holidays and tanning trends from the 1960s onwards. Almost 9 out of 10 skin cancer cases are caused by overexposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun or sunbeds. High-strength ‘SPF’ sunscreen is a fairly recent invention. In the 1970s sunscreen was typically SPF 2. It reached SPF 15 in the 1980s and SPF 30 in the 1990s. It took years for people to fully understand and accept the real risk of UV exposure. #news #travel #history Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/ODNsubs TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ondemandnews Twitter: https://twitter.com/ODN Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ODN/ If you wish to purchase any of our clips for commercial use, please visit: http://www.itnproductions.co.uk/news/
