Australia takes part at NATO summit as key player for the Indo-Pacific | DW News

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says his country will join the G7 backed 'Climate Club' to tackle global warming. Albanese who was in Berlin on Monday made the announcement alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The 'Climate Club' is a key initiative from the German leader and came into being last year. On Monday, he explained how the club could work for both Australia and Germany. "We want companies from Germany and Australia enhance the cooperation for the production and transport of green hydrogen. With this cooperation Germany and Australia are delivering an important contribution to reach climate neutrality.” Besides the commitment to tackling climate change with Germany, Prime Minister Albanese also committed to deploying a Royal Australian Air Force surveillance aircraft to Germany for six months. The announcement of that deployment coming as Prime Minister Albanese attends the NATO Summit in Lithuania. Australia isn't a NATO member. Australia's security concers have traditionally spanned the Indo-Pacific and it is here that NATO has shown a new interest in the past year.
