ULEZ row: Labour candidate suggests Starmer is putting party politics before voters

Sir Keir Starmer is facing a revolt from Labour MPs in London over the expansion of the ULEZ scheme. The party’s candidate in the Uxbridge and South Ruislip by-election, Danny Beales suggested Sir Keir had put his party before voters and pledged to put his “community first” and oppose the scheme. Three other Labour MPs in outer London constituencies backed Mr Beales’s calls for ULEZ to be delayed unless a more generous “scrappage” scheme is introduced to help motorists with the cost of greener vehicles. The candidate said that after an “evolution of his position”, he would “fight” Sadiq Khan, who is in charge of the project, and called for Sir Keir to do the same.
