Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukrainian forces were suffering “significant” losses in their efforts to break Russian defences. Putin told reporters that he can clearly say that the Ukrainian offensive has begun. The Russian President also said that the Ukrainian troops have suffered “significant losses” during the counteroffensive. Putin said fighting had been very intense over the past three days but that "the enemy did not have success" in any of the battles. However, some experts believe that Russia’s claims that the counteroffensive had been blunted were premature.
