A rally in Darwin was attended by 3000 people protesting the Northern Territory government’s inactivity to de-escalate the rising criminal activity in the state. The protest was held in honour of 20-year-old Declan Laverty, who was stabbed to death while working in a bottle shop last Sunday. The peaceful protest was organised by Declan’s father Damian Crook and the anger within the community was loud and clear. “I love this place and I'm hurting for Darwin, I really am, I'm worried – about the people that come here, I don’t want that, I really don’t want that,” Mr Crook said. The government announced a review of bail laws and extra security at bottle shops throughout Darwin but the people at the rally say it’s not enough.
