Government to crack down on social media companies for misinformation

Social media companies will be fined millions of dollars if they allow the spread of disinformation and misinformation on their platforms in a new crackdown by the Federal Government. Communications Minister Michelle Rowland will draft legislation allowing the Australian Communications and Media Authority to impose industry-wide standards enforcing social media platforms to remove potentially harmful content.
